7. Reporting incidents that happen during motorcycle training

You must tell the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) about all incidents which happen during:

  • compulsory basic training (CBT)
  • direct access scheme (DAS) - both on and off road
  • training at a DVSA test centre

Report a motorcycle training incident online within 48 hours.

Reporting serious incidents

You or the instructor must tell DVSA straight away about serious incidents.

Outside of these times, you should either:

  • leave a voicemail message
  • call DVSA first thing on the next working day

Reporting incidents to the Health and Safety Executive

You must also report serious incidents to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) if they:

  • involve hospitalisation
  • result in time off work for 7 days or more

You can report serious incidents to HSE online.

Theres also a telephone service for reporting fatal and major injuries.

You have to report these incidents to HSE to comply with the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR).
