UK and Japan: Prime Minister's visit 2017

The Prime Minister was accompanied by a delegation of business leaders on her trip to Japan. The visit focussed on defence and security cooperation, and trade and investment opportunities.

The business delegation showcased the strength of British business, the shared confidence in the UK-Japan economic relationship as we leave the EU, and the potential for future growth.

Friday 1 September: Tokyo

The Prime Minister meet with the Emperor of Japan at the Imperial Palace, watched a wheelchair basketball championship match and returned to the UK.

Thursday 31 August: Tokyo

The Prime Minister hosted a joint Japan-UK Business Forum in Tokyo and hoed a press conference with the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.

Wednesday 30 August: arrival in Kyoto

The Prime Minister arrived, attended a traditional tea ceremony and traveled to Tokyo on a bullet train with the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.
