Foreign and Commonwealth Office
A team from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is visiting universities across England, Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland in February on a Diplomatic Fast Stream Roadshow. The Roadshow is part of a campaign to encourage talented students from a range of backgrounds to apply for the Civil Service Diplomatic graduate program.
Students will hear from junior diplomats, current Fast Streamers and Ambassadors, on what life is like in the diplomatic service and the opportunities that serving the UK at home and overseas can offer.
Making a difference across the globe
The Universities being visited have been selected based on their academic performance for student diversity, to help the Foreign Office and Civil Services commitment to attract applications from the most talented graduates of all backgrounds.
Jill Gallard, Director Human Resources at the FCO said:
When I joined the FCO I was worried about whether I would fit in, coming from a state school in Northern Ireland and not having gone to Oxbridge.
However I soon realised that the FCO is open to people from all backgrounds and now Im HR director one of my top priorities is to make a tangible difference to diversity in the FCO.
We want to recruit the brightest and the best and are dedicated to reaching a wider range of universities to help us have a diverse workforce which is representative of modern Britain.
