Details

Small volume liquid explosive detection systems are used to screen containers of liquids that are less than 100ml in volume.

The approval of small volume liquid explosive detection systems (LEDS) is a UK-specific requirement in addition to the capability provided by LEDS for the screening of liquids greater than 100ml.

To be listed on the UK approved equipment list, small volume LEDS must be a type A or type B system with European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) LEDS approval. The equipment must have also been approved as appropriate for small volume liquid explosive detection based on an independent assessment by Department for Transport Research, Analysis and Development (RAD).

To request further information on the UK assessment process please contact DfT RAD at RAD@dft.gov.uk.
