Guidance: Apply for the Coronation Living Heritage Fund (CLHF)

2.5 million in funding is available to support local tree planting projects and small tree nurseries across England. To get funding, you must apply for a grant.

You can apply for 10,000 to 50,000 for each project.

The Coronation Living Heritage Fund (CLHF) celebrates the coronation of King Charles III.

When to apply

You must apply by 10 am on 11 September 2023.

Projects must be completed by 31 March 2024.

Who can apply

The following types of local authority can apply:

  • county councils
  • unitary authorities
  • metropolitan and London boroughs
  • combined authorities
  • district, borough and city councils

The tree officer or environmental team at these local authorities can also apply for funding on behalf of:

  • parish, community and town councils
  • community groups and parishes

Projects that can be funded

The fund is made up of 5 schemes:

  • Coronation Tree Packs: to provide funding for free or subsidised tree schemes for local residents and organisations
  • Coronation Miyawaki Woods: to enable local authorities to plant miniature areas of woodland in urban areas
  • Coronation Community Orchards: to provide grants to local people and groups to establish community orchards
  • Trees on Farms: to provide grants for local farmers and residents for tree planting on agricultural land
  • Small and Community Tree Nurseries: to enable local authorities to support small and community-run tree nurseries

Each local authority can apply for a grant from up to 2 different schemes.

How to apply

You must apply using Atamis, Defras online tendering system.

Find theopportunity listing for the CLHF on Atamis by searching for it using the project reference number C20364.

Read the Invitation to Apply (ITA) in theopportunity listing. This provides complete information about the tendering process, including eligibility and assessment criteria.

Register on Atamis

  1. Go to the Atamis website.
  2. Search for the listing using the project reference number C20364.
  3. Select Register interest.
  4. Enter your organisation and user details, then select Submit.

Youll get an email with a link to set up a password.

If you have used the portal before, select Log in from the landing page, then enter your username and password.

Outcome of your application

Defra will not assess your application until after the closing date.

Youll need to log in to Atamis to find out if your application has been successful.
