Guidance for schools on maintaining their capabilities to deliver high quality remote education in cases where it is not possible or contrary to government guidance for some or all pupils to attend face-to-face provision.

This non-statutory guidance is for school and trust leaders, staff and governing bodies in:

  • local authority maintained schools
  • academies and free schools
  • special schools
  • alternative provision

The Coronavirus Act 2020 and provision of remote education (England) temporary continuity (no.2) direction expired on 24 March 2022 meaning that schools no longer have a legal duty to provide remote education.
