Guidance: Integrate your data directly by using legal software suppliers

Land Registry

Using legal software to integrate your data can allow you to submit digital applications and access other services and information from HM Land Registry. Available with or without a case management system, you could reduce manual input, save time, improve accuracy and link multiple processes within a single system.

The benefits for you and your business

From 30 November 2022, applications to change the register will be digital by default for business customers. Many already use legal software to do this. As an alternative route to our own Digital Registration Service, this can bring a range of potential additional benefits that could better suit your business, including:

  • pre-populated data ?reducing re-typing and human error, automatically pulling through information already entered elsewhere and from the register
  • data validation and guidance cutting requisition errors and cancellations by checking against the register as you go, calculating fees and prompting to upload relevant documents
  • collaborating?with colleagues ?easily save draft applications, share work and link into other parts of your firms process
  • dashboards with reminders and alerts to view application status, manage by priority and ensure nothing gets missed
  • automatic document storage never miss anything and save time downloading and storing documents, with new responses such as registration completed documents automatically collected
  • easily reply to requisitions through free format notepad or uploading additional documents

Plus, linking to other systems and information means you could access wider benefits such as:

  • order searches and keep in a single platform, simply and seamlessly including local authority, environmental, mining and more
  • make all government submissions in one place ?pull information and reduce the need for double entry with AP1s, Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT), Welsh Land Transaction Tax (LTT) and Companies House
  • single login to all your conveyancing services
  • streamlined conveyancing workflows to help with compliance, save time and reduce risk
  • the latest digital legal forms and editable letters all available in one place

The increased automation and integration with HM Land Registry that Business Gateway delivers, has seen our Post Completion team benefit from big time savings allowing them to focus on other work.

How it works

In simplified terms, customers can seamlessly access our services using your own case management system. Selecting some or all of a range of different parts of our services, using our Application Programming Interface (API) to connect through Business Gateway.

How to get started

If you already have a case management system, we recommend talking to your existing supplier first to see what they can offer.

If you dont have a case management system, or you want to explore what others can offer, see suppliers integrated with HM Land Registry systems that can support you.

In some cases, typically for firms with significant IT functions, you may want to work directly with HM Land Registry to create your own integration with our systems. For more information about what this integration will involve, see our developer pack.
