The Draft school admission appeals code 2022 (which has been corrected), remains provisional until it completes the Parliamentary process. It is expected to come into force from 1 October 2022, subject to Parliamentary approval. We will also update the non-statutory advice on school admission appeals at this time.
The rationale behind the proposed changes in the draft appeals code 2022 can be found in the governments consultation response.
The current School admission appeals code (2012) remains in force until the draft appeals code 2022 is approved. Admission appeals lodged on or before 30 September 2022 must follow the current appeals code 2012.

- headteachers and school leaders
- school staff
- governing bodies
- local authorities
- admission authorities of maintained schools as defined in section 88(1) (a) and (b) of the School Standards and Framework Act (SSFA) 1998
- schools adjudicators
- admission appeal panels
It applies to:
- local-authority-maintained schools
- academies and free schools
