Changes to international relocation payment (IRP) eligibility and payments
Teacher trainees in languages or physics who train to teach in the 2024 to 2025 academic year are no longer eligible for the IRP. This applies to all trainees starting courses from 1 July 2024 onwards.
Payments to teachers applying from September 2024 will be split into two 5,000 payments rather than awarded as a single 10,000 sum.
Information for schools and initial teacher training providers about a pilot scheme offering international relocation payments to eligible teachers of languages and physics from outside the UK.
The scheme is running as a pilot in the 2023 to 2024 and 2024 to 2025 academic years.
International relocation payments are one of a number of measures announced in the schools white paper Opportunity for all: strong schools with great teachers for your child.
Other measures to attract the best teachers from around the world to come and work in English schools include:
- a new approach to awarding QTS to overseas teachers
- a package of bursaries and scholarships also now available for non-uk candidates in priority subjects
There are also other financial incentives which support recruitment and retention in priority subjects including the levelling up premium.
