Philippa Hird and Sir Robert Burgess have been appointed as members of the School Teachers Review Body and will be in post for 3 years. Peter Batley, who has already served 3 years as a member, has been reappointed to serve a further 3 years, following his successful application.

The STRB provides independent advice to the government on pay and conditions for teachers and school leaders in England and Wales.

Dr Patricia Rice, Chair of the STRB said:

I am delighted to welcome Philippa and Sir Robert to the review body and equally delighted that Peter will continue as a review body member. I am confident that all 3 members knowledge and experience will greatly benefit the review body in its important work in considering pay and conditions for teachers.

Appointment process

The appointment process was run in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments code of practice and was made on merit. All 3 members confirmed that they have no political activity to declare. Peter Batley and Sir Robert Burgess do not hold any other public appointments. Philippa Hird has confirmed that she is a member of the Cambridge Advisory Committee for the appointment of magistrates.
