Guidance: River Thames: restrictions and closures

Before boating on the River Thames, you should check the current river conditions.

When Where Whats happening
Until further notice Bell Weir reach Fallen tree on right hand channel causing obstruction to navigation. Approximate location just downstream of Straight Road, Priest Hill and Windsor Road, what3words ///state.humble.sugars.
Until further notice Canal Bridge, Radcot A vehicle has damaged Canal Bridge, where Radcot Road A4095 crosses the River Thames. Please be cautious of falling debris if navigating near the bridge.
Until further notice Boulters Lock Gates on the pedestal side do not open fully. Width of the tail gates is restricted to no more than 5.5 metres (18). Please use caution when entering and exiting the lock.

Friday 5 May to Monday 31 July 2023 Abingdon reach Nuneham Railway Viaduct southern bridge abutment repairs 2023: during this time there will be a restricted river under the southern arch.
Sunday 28 May and Sunday 9 July 2023, 6am to 11am Marlow reach One on the River Triathlon 2023: the navigation channel will be on the left, Windsor and Maidenhead, side of the the river.
Monday 12 June to Tuesday 27 June 2023 Henley reach Henley Royal Regatta practice and Henley Womens Regatta 2023: during these dates no boats other than rowing racing boats can navigate within the Regatta course or crew warm up area.
Tuesday 27 June to Sunday 2 July 2023 Henley reach Henley Royal Regatta 2023: all boats should navigate in accordance with instructions given from Environment Agency patrol launches.
Saturday 1 July 2023 6am to 8:30am Bray reach The Boulters to Bray Swim 2023: all river users are asked to keep a good look out for the swimmers, navigate slowly and with particular caution when in their vicinity and give them a wide berth.
Saturday 1 July and Sunday 2 July 2023 8am to 6pm Teddington reach National Sea Scout Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Middlesex, right hand side of the river.
Monday 3 July to Sunday 9 July Hambleden reach Henley Music Festival 2023: all boats travelling downstream must be navigated within the regatta course and all boats travelling upstream must be navigated on the Buckinghamshire bank/Fawley side of the river.
Friday 7 July and Saturday 8 July 2023 Hambleden reach Henley Masters Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Buckinghamshire bank, Fawley Court side of the river.
Saturday 8 July 2023 9am to 5pm Sunbury reach Thames Valley Skiff Club Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Middlesex, right hand side of the river.
Saturday 8 July 2023 7pm to 9pm Hambleden reach Henley Swim Festival Saturday Swim 2023: the navigation channel for river users on the Berkshire side of Temple Island will be reduced in width by 10 metres, adjacent to the buoyed swimming area, for a length of 50 metres.
Saturday 8 July and Sunday 9 July 2023 8am to 7pm Teddington reach Kingston Amateur Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Surrey, left hand side of the river.
Sunday 9 July 2023 8am to 4:30pm Hambleden reach Henley Swim Festival 2023: the navigation channel for river traffic will be on the Buckinghamshire Bank, Fawley Court side of the river. All traffic should pass to the Buckinghamshire Bank, Fawley Court side of Temple Island.
Sunday 9 July 2023 8:30am to 5pm Sonning reach Southern Area Sea Cadet Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the right, Oxfordshire/non-towpath side of the river.
Monday 10 July to Tuesday 18 July 2023 Hambleden reach Thames Traditional Boat Festival 2023: the navigation channel for both upstream and downstream traffic will be on the Remenham, left side of the river, along the Henley Royal Regatta course.
Monday 10 July to Friday 18 August 2023 Blakes Lock weir stream portage Blakes Lock portage closure 2023: Navigation in the downstream weir stream will be restricted.
Saturday 15 July 2023 9am to 4:30pm Marsh reach Wargrave Boating Club Regatta 2023: the navigation channel shall be established on the right, Oxfordshire side of the river.
Saturday 15 July 2023 9am to 5pm Teddington reach Royal Canoe Club Royal Sprint Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Surrey, left hand side of the river.
Saturday 15 July and Sunday 16 July 2023 8am to 6pm Molesey reach Molesey Amateur Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Middlesex, right hand side of the river (including the Middlesex channel around Platts Eyot).
Sunday 16 July 2023 9am to 4:30pm Teddington reach Kingston Rotary Club Dragon Boat Event 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Middlesex, right hand side of the river.
Tuesday 18 July to Friday 11 August 2023 Hambleden reach Deconstruction of the Henley Royal Regatta Course 2023: there are restrictions in place while the regatta course is being dismantled.
Saturday 22 July 2023 9am to 4pm Teddington reach
