The map shows the stretches and provisional timings for improving coastal access in the north west of England. Use the links in the table below to find out more information about each stretch.

  1. Map and table updated: following an administrative error, the Birkenhead to the Welsh Border stretch has reverted to 'Approved in part but not yet open, establishment works planned or in progress for approved lengths'.

  2. Map and table updated to show the Silverdale to Cleveleys and Birkenhead to the Welsh Border stretches are now at stage 5.

  3. Map and table updated to show that part of the Cleveleys to Pier Head, Liverpool stretch is now open to the public.

  4. Map and table updated to show that more sections of the Silecroft to Silverdale stretch have been approved.

  5. The final 3 lengths of the Cleveleys to Pier Head, Liverpool stretch have been approved and this is now at stage 5.

  6. Map and table updated to show that length 1 of the Silecroft to Silverdale stretch is now open to the public.

  7. Map and table updated to show that some sections of the Gretna to Allonby stretch have been approved.

  8. Map and table updated to show that some sections of the Birkenhead to the Welsh border stretch have been approved.
