The map shows the stretches and provisional timings for improving coastal access in the north west of England. Use the links in the table below to find out more information about each stretch.

Gretna to Allonby	Stage 4 and 5: Partially approved (not yet available for public use - work to establish the route is currently taking place on approved lengths)
Allonby to Whitehaven	Open to the public
Whitehaven to Silecroft	Open to the public
Silecroft to Silverdale - Beach car park, Silecroft to Green Road railway station	Open to the public
Silecroft to Silverdale - Green Road railway station to Cove Well, Silverdale	Stage 4 and 5: Partially approved (not yet available for public use - work to establish the route is currently taking place on approved lengths)
Walney Island	Open to the public
Silverdale to Cleveleys	Stage 5: Open (not yet available for public use - work to establish the route is currently taking place)
Cleveleys to Pier Head, Liverpool - South Promenade (Kingsway) to Tarleton Lock	Stage 5: Open (not yet available for public use - work to establish the route is currently taking place)
Cleveleys to Pier Head, Liverpool - Tarleton Lock to Pier Head, Liverpool	Open to the public
Birkenhead to the Welsh border	Stage 4 and 5: Partially approved (not yet available for public use - work to establish the route is currently taking place on approved lengths)

Map and table updated: following an administrative error, the Birkenhead to the Welsh Border stretch has reverted to 'Approved in part but not yet open, establishment works planned or in progress for approved lengths'.
27 July 2023
Map and table updated to show the Silverdale to Cleveleys and Birkenhead to the Welsh Border stretches are now at stage 5.
10 May 2023
Map and table updated to show that part of the Cleveleys to Pier Head, Liverpool stretch is now open to the public.
20 October 2022
Map and table updated to show that more sections of the Silecroft to Silverdale stretch have been approved.
6 April 2022
The final 3 lengths of the Cleveleys to Pier Head, Liverpool stretch have been approved and this is now at stage 5.
9 February 2022
Map and table updated to show that length 1 of the Silecroft to Silverdale stretch is now open to the public.
1 October 2021
Map and table updated to show that some sections of the Gretna to Allonby stretch have been approved.
7 July 2021
Map and table updated to show that some sections of the Birkenhead to the Welsh border stretch have been approved.
