April 6
01:00 2011

Christine Gilbert announced her intention to resign from her post earlier this year.

The Education Secretary thanked the Chief Inspector for her years of dedicated service and praised her commitment to raising standards in education and improving outcomes of children and young people.

Miriam Rosen, a former executive director at Ofsted, will be the interim Chief Inspector until a permanent appointment is made. The position was advertised from 20 March 2011 and will follow the public appointments process.

The exchange of letters between Christine Gilbert and the Secretary of State can be found on Ofsteds website.
