Huw Jones was appointed Chairman of the S4C Authority in June 2011. Brought up in Cardiff, he has been a prominent figure in Welsh language music and media since the late 1960s when he was known initially as a pop singer and TV presenter, careers which he combined with studying for a degree in Modern Languages at Jesus College, Oxford. At this time also, he was a co-founder of Sain Record Company.

Following the establishment of S4C in 1981 he left the record business to set up his own TV production company, Teledur Tir Glas, and, with others, the TV facilities company Barcud, which he chaired until 1993.

He was appointed Chief Executive of S4C in 1994, relinquishing his commercial interests, and remained in post until his retirement in 2005. During that time, he drove forward S4Cs strategy for the digital age, which included its investment in SDN, the digital TV multiplex licence holder, of which he was a Director and sometime Chairman.

He is currently Chairman of Portmeirion Ltd, Vice Chairman of the Nant Gwrtheyrn Language Learning Centre, a Fellow of the Royal Television Society and an Honorary Fellow of Aberystwyth and Bangor Universities.
