Culture Secretary John Whittingdale MP has today (4 July) met with key stakeholders across DCMS sectors to discuss how the outcome of the EU Referendum will provide new opportunities for the UK.
Following the British people voting to leave the European Union on 23 June 2016, the Government are now united in delivering the result and making sure that we secure the best possible future for the UK.
At the meeting with chairs and chief executives from across DCMS arms-length bodies (ALBs), Mr Whittingdale emphasised that there will be no immediate changes and that there will also be new opportunities for the UK which we will seize.
Culture Secretary John Whittingdale MP said:
DCMS sectors are amongst some of the strongest and fastest growing, contributing 16 per cent of total Gross Value Added to the UK economy. Britains leaving the EU will present challenges but also provide opportunities to win new business and strengthen our influence around the world.
I intend to hold a series of meetings with representatives of the industries which are support by DCMS to ensure that their voice is heard as we seek to make new arrangements with the countries of Europe and beyond.
At the meeting, he stressed how the Government will work to represent the interests of all parts of the UK and take forward the important legislation that was set before Parliament in the Queens Speech, including the Digital Economy Bill and the Cultural Property (Armed Conflicts) Bill.
Mr Whittingdale will be meeting with key industry stakeholders in a series of roundtable events later this month to hear their views and discuss how Government can help make sure we continue to support them.
