Today (15 November 2016), in his first visit to Aberdeen, Industry and Energy Minister Jesse Norman has taken the opportunity to discuss UK government support for the oil and gas sector with industry leaders and how this has helped the industry to develop.

The minister travelled to the Oil and Gas UK headquarters to meet with CEO Deirdre Michie where they discussed the importance of the oil and gas industry in the governments Industrial Strategy. They then visited subsea engineering company Expro which employs 150,000 people across the UK, and NHV helicopters which opened its first base in Aberdeen in December 2015 and has recently opened a new hangar and passenger terminal at Aberdeen Airport.

Speaking after the visit, Jesse Norman said:

The UK government has been clear that the oil and gas industry will be a central part of our Industrial Strategy. Aberdeen is the industrys beating heart and Ive seen first-hand today the world leading technology and expertise we have here.

In the face of significant challenges the industry has demonstrated time and time again how resilient and adaptive it can be, and we will continue to support it wherever we can through these difficult times.
