Guidance: MIN 594 Changes to Examinations leading to a Restricted Engineering UK Certificate of Competency

This MIN details changes in requirements to obtain a restricted engineering certificate of competency (CoC) in the following areas;

  • Merchant navy second engineer, less than 3000 kW, unlimited area, III/3 CoC as detailed in MSN 1857;
  • Fishing class 1 (chief engineer) CoC:
  • Yacht CoC and academic requirements currently listed in MSN 1859;
  • Small vessel (SV) engineering sea service requirements for the issue of a yacht restricted small vessel CoC.

This MIN also indicates changes in General Engineering Science (GES) I & II examinations and information regarding course entry and academic exemptions.

This notice should be read in conjunction with MSN 1857, MSN 1859 and MIN 524 and replaces MIN 552 and MIN 565.

MIN 594 has been extended and expires 10 January 2023.
