What teaching school hubs do

Teaching school hubs are centres of excellence led by schools and multi-academy trusts.

They offer teacher training and professional development for teachers and leaders at all stages of their career.

They play a significant role in the delivery of:

• school-based initial teacher training (ITT)
• national professional qualifications (NPQs)
• the early career framework (ECF)
• appropriate bodyservices for theinduction of early career teachers

Teaching school hubswill become the main appropriate body providers from September 2024.

How the hubs are funded

Teaching school hubsreceive annual grant funding from the Department for Education.

The grant is subject to conditions, including showing progress against key performance indicators.

Teaching school hubs replaced the previous network of approximately 750 teaching schools, which ended in August 2021.

In February 2024, we announced the schools who successfully applied to become teaching school hubs from September 2024 to August 2028.

The list of teaching school hubs provides details of each lead school in England that will operate as a teaching school hub from September 2024.

Hubs are supported by the Teaching School Hubs Council. The council:

• represents teaching school hubs, when advising DfE on national policy
• supports the creation and growth of teaching school hubs
• ensures theres sufficient capacity for successful delivery of the programme
