The 1 million Youth Social Action Fund fund will address gaps in participation that the Ipsos Mori Youth Social Action Survey identified last year.
The survey showed a lower participation rate of young people from lower-socio economic groups. Part of the new fund will therefore be for organisations that can work with young people in more deprived areas of the country.
The survey also showed that only 25% of young people in the East of England took part in meaningful social action compared with a 40% national average participation rate. The other part of the fund will help organisations to increase youth social action opportunities in the East of England.
