Carter Adams, now 21, was convicted of offences including battery, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Chelmsford Crown Court in November last year and sentenced to 8 years imprisonment.

The first incident happened in October 2014 where three men were assaulted at Bar Sport in Braintree High Street in an unprovoked attack and taken to hospital with head and facial injuries.

The second incident occurred in March 2015 where Adams was part of a group who assaulted three men in another unprovoked attack outside a nightspot in Witham. One victim suffered serious injuries.

However, at a hearing today the Court of Appeal quashed that sentence and imposed a jail term of 12 years imprisonment with an extended licence period of 4 years.

Solicitor General Robert Buckland QC MP referred the case to the Court, and speaking after the hearing today said:

I hope this 12 year prison term sends a strong message that crimes of this nature will not be tolerated.

Adams repeatedly assaulted a number of members of the public who were simply trying to have a good night out. Its appropriate that he should spend longer in jail and Im pleased the Court has increased his sentence.
