Details

This release and the data within was revised on 26/05/2023 to correct and remove errors in the data causing inflated tonnage and value figures in 2023.

Highlights

  • Total landings by UK vessels increased in March 2023 compared to 2022, up 43 per cent. The value of landings in March 2023 (68 million) also increased by 3 per cent compared to 2022.
  • Landings in March 2023 comprised mostly of Pelagic species (78 per cent). This was driven by landings of Blue Whiting which is usually a highly targeted fishery during the spawning season between February and March each year, where the fish are in the largest and most desirable form.
  • Landings in March 2023 of Pelagic species increased by 65 per cent compared to March 2022 which translated to a 22 per cent increase in value landed (3m increase) This was due to increased activity by the large Scottish vessels targeting Blue Whiting driven by increased quota for Blue Whiting stocks in 2023.
